Values

There are a number of values I want to make explict with this project.

Collaboration: There are a number of different photogrammetry systems and software, but this project differs in that it lets contributors work together, build off each other's work, and create shared artifacts and experiences. A possible tagline for this kind of collaboration: contribute in a way that adds up.
Participation: Computer vision systems are often built out of data collected for a separate purpose without the knowledge or involvement of the original contributors. A goal here is to make data contribution explicit (as a contributor, you know the purpose ahead of time and what will happen with your data) and consensual (you knowingly consent to sharing your data for this purpose). As much as possible, you will be able to drive the algorithms yourself.
Transparency: Computer vision systems are often built and deployed as black boxes without exposing details about their construction or explaining their predictions. Here, the process of building a collection of data is exposed along with the interactive system that processes that data.
Good for the world: A large goal is for this project to use computer vision in a deep and interesting way, to enable a new kind of collaborative photography, and to become a platform for education, empathy, sharing human experiences across time and space, and understanding how to protect the planet.
